The ship's name is the 'Kōun'na ahiru' - the Lucky Duck.
While it is owned by a Japanese company, the ship is registered in Laos. It does not normally fly a flag.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
APPEARANCE
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a very long tanker type boat, with a big conning tower and other things built upon most of the deck. The bow deck is level for about the first few hundred feet. Behind that is a large pile of shipping containers, then the massive conning tower. On the aft end of the boat is something that that looks like an Incan pyramid made of crystal, very unusual.
The ship is a floating city, complete with a network of roads that trucks can be seen driving around on. The level front part of the deck has the doors of the Sentinel launch bays. The ship bristles with shiny new deck guns and purple armored Sentinel Program vehicles.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SPECIFICATIONS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ship is about 2,000 feet long. It's turning circle is 2.5 miles.
It displaces about 840,000 tons.
The ship has enough powered lifeboats to make sure that every single person can make it to sure assuming you only count the executives. The fire department boats could carry most of the skilled workers. For the unskilled workers, there are enough inflatable rubber rafts to go around, though their seaworthiness compared to their task is highly questionable.
The ship has three nuclear powerplants spaces across the length of the ship. How much power they produce and how many of them need to be active for the ship to be dangerous is unknown.
The ship's top speed is about 20 knots, or 25 MPH. It can make it from Los Angeles to Okinawa in 12 days. Stopping the ship from top speed takes about 7 miles of braking distance.
The fishery and greenhouse produce more than enough fresh food to feed everyone on board. If that fails, there is sufficient stored food to ration everyone for three months - long enough to sail back and forth to Japan three times.
The ship, with its computers and advanced technology, has a mimimum crew of 1. However, this is not advisable and only acceptable at sea. Near land, a single person would lack the reaction time needed to keep the ship from crashing.

DEMOGRAPHICS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ship has a crew of roughly 8,000 workers. They divide up into:
500 Japanese making $10/hour.
2000 Chinese making $1/hour.
4000 Lao making 55¢/hour.
1500 Vietnamese making 51¢/hour.
The ship is always working, the workers work 12 hour shifts. Most days there is a 12AM-12PM shift, a 12PM-12AM shift, and a 6AM-6PM shift. Tuesday, Wednesday, and ZThursday only have the morning shift. On Tuesday the evening shift has off and the midday shift covers for them. On Wednesday the midday shift has off. On Thursday the morning shift has off and the midday shift covers for them.
Most of the workers are, of course, dedicated to the manufacture of the Sakura Series Sentinels.
A (realtively) small number of them are general maintainence.
The ones that don't work in the factory work in other areas of the ship.
-There is a full fishery that hauls in fish and turns them into fillets and surimi for the screw and fishmeal for the greenhouse. This involves hauling in the fish, sorting them by species, filletng them, and processing & collecting the surimi and fishmeal.
-The ship has multiple cafeterias to feed the many souls on board.
-The pyramid on the back is a giant multi-tiered greenhouse, growing fresh fruits and vegetables for the crew.
-The ship has a dezalinization plant, where seawater is turned into fresh water, salt, and a little bit of gold.
-A huge laundromat that washes all the uniforms for the crew and dry-cleans the fancy suits of the executives.
-The ship's library.
-Housekeeping for the crew quarters.
There are a few hundred Japanese and other Asian professionals on the boat making good money. These range from firemen and electricians and such up to doctors and lawyers.
Skilled workers can be found in many areas.
-The two hospitals.
-The several fire stations.
-Engineering.
-The several police/security stations.
-The brig.
-The bank
-The school and daycare for ship-born children.
-The nuclear powerplants.
There are many executives making from $100/hour to astronimical salaries.
In addition, there are 'civilian' Japanese who rent space in a public area of the ship. This section hosts restaurants of various scale and all manner of shops where the workers can gets things beyond the bare necesseties. There is a cinema that plays short movies.
Only about 1% of the skilled and unskilled crew speaks any English. The executives have a slightly higher chance.
The ship has a number of dregs; people who once worked on the ship but now do not have jobs vor various reasons. They live squeezed amnongst the shipping containers and the workings of the ship.
The ship has become the Sentinel Hub and with that comes a few hundred American soldiers, with their guns and helicopters and tanks and patrol boats. These Sentinel Program troops are enough for a small army, and they are well-equipped to defend the boat from attacking mutants. In addition to their firearms and attack vehicles, they have fortified the deck with various deck guns ranging from .50 caliber machine guns to 40mm genade launchers to mortars to missile launchers. Unconfirmed reports indicate VTOL fighter jets hidden on board.
Lastly, one of the Sentinel bays is being converted from a Sakura Series construction bay to an all-model repair bay. A few dozen American contractors are on board for this job, which involves heavy machinery.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VISTORS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ship does not get a lot of traffic coming and going, but it does have a few regular visitors.
-A smaller tanker from Japan brings titanium, polymer, and other parts used to construct the Sakura Series. It does not come very often.
-A cargo ship from Japan comes quarterly to resupply the merchants and hospitals. This is always the same ship.
-Cargo ships from the United States are allowed to visit to deliver good to the merchants and fresh ingredients to the restaurants, as well as cooking oil and flour to the cafeteria. These ships must plan their visit weeks ahead of time, and upon arrival they are swarmed by Sentinel Force patrol boats. The crew is not allowed to board the Lucky Duck and the ship is unloaded by the giant cranes of the supertanker.
-Helicopters take important people to and from the ship, though these require a fight plan and approval from the Captain and the CEO.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEFENSES
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ship is bristling with desk guns.
The desk of the ship is protected by marines, humvees, armored personell carriers, light battle tanks, and a small number of heavy battle tanks - all courtesy of the Sentinel Program.
The waters are patrolled by armed Sentinel Program boats. There are rumors of submarines.
The air is protected by helicotpers. Rumors of VTOL fighter jets are unconfirmed.
The entire ship is protected by the various deck guns. From torpedos to mortarts to machine guns to missile launchers, there is almost no angle to approach the ship from that a gun cannot be pointed at you.
The fire department trucks have water cannons powerful enough to blast the most insistent of boarders over the railing.
Obviously, the ship has sentinels.
-The Sakura sentinels do not generally patrol the boat, but there are 6 launch bays at the front of the deck ready to put a Sakura into action at a moment's notice. The number of complete Sakura Series below deck fluxuates but is unknown. There is a rumor that the 4 remaining Sentinel production bays can create Sentinels fast enough to deploy them in a combat scenario; this is unconfirmed.
-There are usually one or two Gridd AX-40 units on the boat, and rumors state the AX-60 actively patrols the boat.
-The ship keeps about a dozen Octo Sentinels at any given time. Octo Sentinels launch without a launch bay faster than Sakura Series but are ill-suited to combat on the deck or in the air.
-SNTL Supras, if they exist, do not exist on the boat. Or maybe they do. No one has ever seen one on the boat, but no one has ever seen one off the boat, so take it with a grain of sea salt.
-Traks Mk9 units visit the boat but do not enter the repair or docking bays.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTES OF INTEREST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The smallest department in the entire boat is the fishmeal department. It has 6 employees.
The ship is usually cruising around at 10-15 knots, which helps it to catch fish as well as makes it difficult to predict where it is going to be.
The Lucky Duck is generally in international waters. As it is registered in Laos, the only government with a right to complain about what happens to it is the Lao government. With this said, the Sentinel Force are allowed to shoot anyone they want.
The supercomputer that organizes the non-Trask sentinels is on board.
The only angle of approach that is not threatened by the deck guns is from directly behind the ship, at sea level. However, the giant greenhouse pyramid is wider than the deck and makes boarding from that end infeasible, if not impossible. Also, with the ship in motion, there's a very high chance of any boat getting sucked churned under and sucked into the propellers.
The biggest boat anywhere near the Lucky Duck is the USS Midway in San Diego. The 900-foot aircraft carrier is a floating museum. She once held over 4000 souls comfortably and can hit 33 knots.
In a pinch, San Clemente Island can dock any boat no matter how big. However, the Navy base may not appreciate it.
While it is owned by a Japanese company, the ship is registered in Laos. It does not normally fly a flag.
