Name: The Village Hidden by Bones
Created By: Trish
Symbol: An outline of a simple bone, horizontal.
Nation: Land of Ages
Hidden how?: The area the village in is not a welcoming place, but it's littered with fossils of great dinosaurs and monsters. These huge, horrifying remains give the area a reputation of being cursed, so people tend to avoid it.
Size: Medium
Summary: The Bone Village is a haven for outcasts, and as such is a very peaceful and accepting place. While there are many different lifestyles and beliefs, locals respect each others' differences. This leads to an open-minded community, which leads to an intelligent and creative community. The village was founded by cursed Ninja seeking refuge, and many of the clans here carry on a family curse.
While not very large, the village is very self-sustained and is also very well-defended, having only two feasible points of approach. The city is supplied with water via underground rivers. The ancient bones are revered, and many are kept within the village for decoration and inspiration. Ninja here tend to dress much like archeologists; tan cargo pants and tan cargo vests, as well as eye- and headgear to protect them from the hot sun.
History: Many years ago, a horrible evil plagued the land. This evil was defeated, but as it fell it cursed the blood of the Ninja who slew it. Most of these people returned to their homes, but their curses caused problems and made them outcasts. Three such Ninja left their homes and together set out to find a new one where they could live in relative peace.
They found a rocky wasteland where the Earth has cracked open and formed a deep fissure. From the ancient rocks, fossils had spilled out to litter the area. Underground rivers became exposed, and the floor of this ravine was fertile soil that had been hidden under all the dry rock. The whole area could not be seen from a distance, and getting close to either end of the ravine only revealed the horrible bones. The few who knew of the place told the Cursed Three that it was a cursed place, but they did not fear this - for obvious reasons.
The Three planted food in the fertile soil and domesticated local animals and built structures from sun-baked clay. They found lovers from the outside world and raised families. Other cursed Ninja from the same incident were drawn to the place, as well as those cursed by other means, and those who were simply outcasts. The village grew strong and stable. Those whose curses would be passed to their children learned to make the best of them, developing indupliticable jutsus from the effects of said curses.
The Village Hidden in Bones is in a ravine that ripped open in a rocky wasted part of the world. In this chasm, many ancient fossils of dinosaurs and other things spilled out to litter the ground and bake in the sun. The place looked like Hell, or the lair of some terrible monster, or the home of many terrible monsters; however one looked at it this was not a place anyone wanted to go. Eventually, a great Ninja was cursed by his enemy, his curse to pass along his bloodline. Exiled, he took his family and sought a place where people would not bother them and they would not bother others. The ravine welcomed him. In the ravine, he found rich, ancient soil and tons of thick clay. He found the underground rivers and when the old dirt was wet it became quite fertile. Local animals were domesticated, seeds were planted, clay homes were built. Soon other exiles were drawn to the place and a grand non-judgmental community sprang up. As a Ninja generally had to be rather advanced to be worth putting a curse on, the heads of the families that came in were generally powerful Jonin and these families became powerful clans. The village became a calm and peaceful place; fitting for the rest of the ancient giants there.
Arcitechtural Descrption: The village is in a mostly-straight ravine that is only accessible from either end. Much of the distance inward from either end is dry dirt littered with fossils. Further in is the farmland, and then beyond that is the village. The village is laid out along several wide roads that run the length of the village, and the buildings are laid out in between these. The largest and most important buildings are built right into the walls of the ravine. Due to a lack of building materials, the buildings are mostly made of adobe and thatch.
Economically, the village is stable. People tend to have everything they need, but not much more than that. The village has little need for import and not much to export.
Social Description: For a ninja village, the Bone Village is extremely laid-back. They were founded by people that have been through the worst and survived it, and so not much gets to them. While they certainly prepare for any incident, they feel no anxiety about possible threats. Even clear and present danger does not get them terribkly excited, and even devastating loss does not leave them terribly disheartened. When half of them can't brush their teeth in the morning without a demon appearing in the mirror, it takes a lot to get to a person.
Ninja Values: Positivity. A Bone-Nin should never give up. They should be able to see the benefit of ANY situation, even if that situation is the rest of their party just having been burned alive. Bone-Nin are made stronger by every injury and become more determined with every setback.
Preferred Jutsu: Earth Jutsu are common here. They also use jutsus that take the form of materializing dinosaurs out of chakra.
Unique Features:
-Ancient Fossils- The fossils lying around the area are saturated with chakra and can be used in many different ways. The simplest way is just to carry them around as chakra batteries. A more complex use is summoning up a ghostly-but-dangerous chakra manifestation of the creature the bone came from. If a bone's chakra reserve is depleted, it will recharge over time if the bone is buried.
-Cursed-Nin: Unique to this place, there are clans that have bloodline curses. Finding the benefits of these curses, they have made powerful and unpredictable jutsus from them. Tecnhically, the curse can be removed or given to someone else.
-Clay Release: Clay is as heavy as and almost as strong as Earth, yet as malleable as water. It's a stubborn element, but some Bone-Non have an affinity for it, especially those from families of builders.
