Alexander Phade, AKA 'Alpha' AKA 'Gameboy'
Player: Gradius
Name: Alexander Phade
Codename: Alpha, the media has dubbed him 'Gameboy' and he hates it hates it hates it
Age: 20, but prone to change
Height: Varies, but usually 5'10"
Weight: Varies, but usually 180 Lbs
Hair: Varies, but usually silver
Eyes: varies, but usually blue
Nationality: Varies, but usually American
Occupation: Teacher-in-Training, enters pro gaming tournaments whenever they'll let him
Appearance: Alexander's appearance can shift dramatically depending on as little as his mood, but generally his main features are retained in all instances. His hair is silver, spiked at the top and pony tailed in the back, with deep blue eyes and a fair complexion. He's of average height, with a build just barely beyond that, sporting a thin layer of muscle and an equal layer of fat. He can be seen wearing anything from jeans and a t shirt to full blown cosplay, but his 'usual' outfit consists of a pair of jeans with one leg cut off and hemmed at the knee, a simple T Shirt sporting one of many logos or icons, and an overshirt worn like a jacket, unbuttoned and two sizes too large so it hangs nearly to the knees.
When teaching he switches the jeans for unmodified khaki slacks and a smaller overshirt, buttoned.
Personality: Friendly and boisterous, though prone to multitasking even if it's rude. Nothing interrupts the flow of his mad gaming, but he's always willing to have a Player 2. While he often appears to have a short attention span, that's only because he often has a short attention span.
Background: You've all seen it on the news. 'Mutant powers manifest, no survivors'. Alexander's story is much like it, except no one died... In a fit of frustration and abject boredom, young Mr. Phade snapped, his X Factor going wild and...! Turning his entire school 8 bit for several hours. To those within, it was relatively normal aside from the sudden wildness of color and everyone's 'graphics' being shoved into the stone age, but from without it looked as if the school had been literally flattened. Indeed, many thought it was gone, until someone happened to look down, and later, until they'd looked at what was happening from the air to figure out exactly what was going on.
Everything was eventually fixed, Alexander reverting on his own power while the rest were eventually reversed to three dimensions by some hero or other. But obviously, there was nowhere to go from there but the Academy.
F - Fine honed hand eye coordination and sense of timing make him an excellent scrapper, even without his powers.
A - Excellent hand eye coordination, but it sort of stops below the waist. He isn't exactly an acrobat or a runner.
S - Decently well toned, but he relies on technique and power to do damage in a fight rather than brute force.
E - Well trained by long nights of marathon gaming, powered by nothing but mountain dew and corn chips.
R - Reasonably intelligent, but not the sort to hit the books reliably.
I - Fine honed gamer sense and attention to detail.
P - The iron will necessary to complete Tetris.
Hit Points: Ignore this
Mental health: Ignore this
Resources: Students have Poor resources unless they have other income.
Source of Income- The school provides an allowance to those who need it.
Origin of Powers: Mutant
Powers: Alexander's powers are a combination of mid-level Reality Warping, and a muscle memory similiar to that of the Taskmaster. He copies maneuvers from his favorite video games, and reality is warped just enough to make it feasible and effective. Thus, he's a gifted and difficult to predict fighter, often attacking or defending himself in ways that "shouldn't work" or defy common sense.
Reality Warp: Mental blocks and general immaturity limit Alexander's use of his powers, preventing him from reaching getting anywhere near Omega class. Because of that, he can't 'freewheel' any sort of change to reality, and is constrained to specific tricks he learns.
*Character Editor: By going into a trance, Alexander vanishes briefly into what looks like a cartoon dressing room. He can change his gender, race, age, clothing, and make small alterations to his appearance. Aside from being able to blend in with practically any population, this isn't strong enough to mimic any set appearance, and any clothes he puts on can't be removed except by entering the Character Editor again. The news has dubbed this his 'Gameboy Color' and he hates it hates it hates it
*Inventory: Alexander can digitize anything he can physically lift and shove it in his pocket. He can be 'searched' with a contesting roll against the strength of this power and a declaration of what he's being searched for. Any item he's carrying that matches the criteria will mysteriously dedigitize and fall to the floor at his feet. Similiarly, allies can freely access his inventory and pull things out. The news has dubbed this his 'Gameboy Pocket' and he hates it hates it hates it.
*Microcosm: Alpha can, with great effort, transmute a certain area temporarily as he did when he first manifested his powers. This doesn't 'flatten' the area of make it impossible to get into, at least at his current level of proficiency. It's just silly and awesome.
Fighting Gamer: The other, better trained half of Alpha's mutant gift. He can learn manuevers by playing the game containing them intensively enough. While again not a power in itself, it grants access to the following Stunts, with the possibility of learning new ones as time goes on.
*Spin Attack: A quick spin of a sword that strikes many enemies. By spending one or more rounds charging, Alpha can spin wildly for the same duration he charged, automatically countering melee attacks made on him and making a single, powerful attack on all nearby targets every round on his turn.
*Shoryuken: A spinning uppercut that drills the enemy into the sky, striking repeatedly and knocking their guard.
*Magic: A basic attack spell, which can strike a single target with the power of Ice, Fire, or Lightning. Each uses costs Mental Health.
*Defend: By spending one action, Alpha will take half damage until he takes any other action. This is after all other calculations.
Widgit: Alexander's pet. A squirrel that was caught in the original outburst of his power, and 'joined his party' before it could be found and fixed. Tainted by primal reality warp chaos, Widgit can be 'stored' like an item, and can benefit from the 'Character Editor' to take various forms. Unless specifically noted, however, these forms all have the same stats and abilities. Widgit and Alexander generally cannot fight at the same time, and if one is out, the other cannot target or be targetted.
The news has dubbed Widgit his 'Game Genie' and he hates it hates it hates it.
Equipment - Equipment is very important to Alexander! Any object he fights with for long enough will eventually absorb enough of his power to 'evolve' into a more fantastic form, usually a weapon from whatever game he's been playing.
Master Sword - Formerly a baseball bat carried for self defense. Eventually took the form of the 'Sword That Repels Evil' from Legend of Zelda lore.
Mirror Shield - Formerly a necklace that Alpha always felt safe wearing. Eventually took the form of the Mirror Shield from Legend of Zelda lore.
Weaknesses
Laws of Narrative - Gameboy is strangely susceptible to climactic moments. Any action taken against him that must succeed to continue a plot will work regardless of logic. Disabling him with abilities he's immune to, stealing from his Inventory, or bypassing his defenses all work as long as it's in the name of building tension.
It's You! The...- Similiar to the Laws of Narrative, Alpha has a tendency to be sucked into issues that have nothing to do with him. He always looks like the fated hero of the forgotten tribe, or the False Prophet hated by the latest trendy religion, and it's just a giant pain in the butt. Once he's 'expected' to fill this roll, it can be difficult for him to escape doing so, and the GM can even take full control of the character to make him do certain things.
Skills: Swordplay, Martial Arts, Gunplay, Driving, Programming, Computer Use, Gaming
